December 8 is a Muslim Holiday

December 8 was declared a Muslim Holiday here in General Santos City and the rest of South Central Mindanao, Region XII. This is in view of the celebration of Eid al-Adha. It is our Muslim brothers' and sisters' Feast of Sacrifice. It is considered to be the holiest and the grandest festival in the Muslim calendar. It is the time of commemorating Abraham's (Ibrahim to Muslims) gesture of sacrificing his son Isaac (Ishmael to Muslims) as an act of obedience to God. As Abraham was all set to sacrifice his son, God intervened and instead asked a lamb as a sacrifice. Abraham passed the test God gave him.
That is the reason why the Muslims all over the world today sacrifice an animal, usually a goat or a sheep, and share them to everyone in the community, Muslims and non-Muslims alike.
