Mama Dearie's Birthday Celebration & Some Mother's Day Notes

Prior to celebrating my Mother's birthday on Labor Day, she had earlier mentioned to me how she would like it celebrated. Mind you, she has been mentioning it to me since last year. She said that she would love to have a beach "Hawaiian" theme party and with my brother's band, Kuerdas performing for her and for her invited guests.

As her birthday was fast approaching, I did not have any qualms organizing it because it also turned out that  Kuerdas was contracted to perform at the Bikini Open by the beach, too! Things were at our advantage as we did not have to rent a sound system, have budget worries of the band's PF, etc., etc., All we needed to do was to don our Hawaiian costumes and head for the beach :-)

Indeed, it was a night of fun, reggae party. What made it all the more fun and exciting was when the 10 candidates for the Bikini Open 2010 paraded on center stage in their skimpy swim wears. It made quite a lot of men and women drooling, LOL!

Bikini Open Wannabe Contestants, LOL!

The sumptuous foods that were laid down on the table, 5 courses and the 60 kilos roasted hog and some favorite desserts made us all forget our diet. Sigh!

I wanted the celebration to be something different for my mother. And yes, I am glad it all went as planned.

===============================================

It almost took me forever hitting the publish button for the above post because of my toxic work schedule. Mother's day is a day before the Automated Elections in the Philippines. This is history in the making and being a huge part of it is something that I should not be boasting, not unless everything turns out well :-)

Despite the negative publicities, we have been working under pressure to ensure that everything will work as planned. So you can just imagine how taxing and draining it is for me.

Yet, I can't let this day pass without having to pay tribute to my mother who is the ultimate source of nagging inspiration, LOL! Kidding aside, though Mama Dearie and I would often discuss and argue over petty and trivial stuffs, I can not discount the fact that she has been the best mother that she can be.

I remember my mother telling me that her entire family (parents, brothers and sisters) were all against their marriage. Prior to my parents' wedding day, her elder sister even persuaded her to go to a far-flung place, promised to support her pregnancy and her schooling with the condition that she doesn't marry my father. But my mother wasn't persuaded. She already had her mind made up.  She was thinking of me in her womb. I would be without a father. If she is to give birth, she wanted me to have a complete family. She fought for their love and married at 18, gave birth at 19.

I will always be grateful to our God for He blessed me with a complete family. My salutation to my Pretty Mama for having to withstand everything despite all the odds. I am very proud to have you for a mother!

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

Tears for Fears

When humans are displaced by pets, you will know the world is changing rapidly.

It all happened yesterday - very early in the morning when my beautiful mother panicked. She looked very desperate while going in and out of the house looking for our Shih Tzu puppy, Ewoks. He is 6 months old and he has been the family's baby since he arrived.

When groovy Mama failed to find Ewoks inside the house premises, she went berserk and ran all over the neighborhood. You can't imagine how funny she looked, LOL! She went back home, slumped her body on the couch and wept. When I saw her crying, I don't know whether to sympathize with her or just laugh my heart out! But don't misunderstand me. I was as worried as hell too but I wasn't expecting my mother crying if we lose Ewoks.

She was already crying her heart out and between sobs, she kept repeating how much she'll get affected because of the loss. Then out of the blue, along came Ewoks, wagging his tail and kissing her feet! My mother's face immediately went aglow and she hugged him so tightly! I've heard her whisper to Ewoks: "What would my life be like without you?!"

Talk about human displacement? There you go. My two brothers and I are being upstaged by this Shih Tzu. A dog's life ain't a dog's life no more.

Belated Birthday and Mother's Day Greetings

I was out of town when Mother's Day was celebrated. But it did not prevent me from remembering that May 10, 2009 is a day for all mothers! I was thinking of my own mother and my Prince Scotty's Mum. If not for both Mums, My Prince and I wouldn't be on earth today. My Prince always gives Mummy a very special treat on Mother's day. They would usually go out for lunch or dinner and watch a fine movie.

Incidentally, both Mums were born in May. Last Friday, May 22, it was Mummy Carol's birthday. I was able to speak to her and she sounded very happy that her children came over to celebrate with her.

And how she loved the birthday card I've sent her! I was so glad she liked it! I have yet to send out the birthday gifts I have prepared for her.

Mummy Carol has always been so nice to me. A simple card and the little things she sends out my way is always appreciated. I truly admire her for raising such a wonderful son in Scott.

To both my mother and Mummy Carol, a belated Happy Birthday and Belated Happy Mother's Day to the both of you!

My Mother's Birthday Celebration

My apologies for having not updated this blog. I have been basically lazing around the entire week. Forgive my indolence. I am aware that this post is long overdue. I was out for 5 days and upon my return, there were quite a number of deadlines to beat for paid reviews.

My mother's birthday celebration is a very simple one. A few relatives were around to celebrate wih us. The beach became the ultimate venue for the celebration as it was a holiday- Labor Day. Although we expected the mammoth crowd as we entered the vicinity, we were surprised to see the place overflowing with crowd obviously families bonding together.

The children obviously had fun. All of us contented ourselves with the sumptuous foods laid down on the table.

We couldn't get enough of the celebration. Incidentally, Kuerdas got a Street Party show the night of my mother's birthday. So we all went there and enjoyed the night to the beat of reggae music.

No! Di kami uminom, promise! ;-)

Smile!

All of us had such a grand time. My mother took center stage everytime the band greets her time and again a very happy special day. My brothers also expressed on stage how much they adore and love our mother dearie.

On my mother's golden birthday celebration next year, we are expecting a very different celebration. You've got to watch out for that!

A Very Happy Birthday for A Very Special Woman!

Sporting Madear's eBay purchase ;-)

Twenty nine years ago, a woman gave birth to me. That very young woman, at a very tender age of 19, gave all the love and affection to a very helpless child. The child who later took all the love she gave for granted.  The patience and understanding that she showed me and my siblings I thought were expected of all mothers.

I remember all the times she had to constantly remind me of the things I needed to do. The household chores which seemed never ending! Her ceaseless reminders on how I should do things; things which most times get under my skin!  I thought mothers do it as their duty to constantly reinforce the chores they wanted to have repeatedly done. I didn't realize that she kept reminding me so that I could be the best person possible!

A big grin for the camera!

One of the most beautiful gifts that she gave me was not of material value. Apart from the gift of life, she taught me how to love the Lord and to glorify His name for each and every blessing He bestows on me.

Taking a pose before attending the Midweek Worship Service

Now that Mother Dearest, you are another year older but still single (haha!), I appreciate with much greater understanding for all the guidance and love that I so often took for granted. I will always be grateful for the love, care and attention which you molded me into being the person that I am today. With pride, I can say that I owe everything to YOU!

I know that it wasn't an easy journey. Life has been difficult and unpredictable. I thank you for being so resilient... for being the wife and mother that you are!

I am ever so grateful for all the sacrifices you've had to endure for our family and the love you showered for all and for all the things that you continue to do, Mother Dearest I want you to know that I am most fortunate to have a mother like you!

I am so proud to be your daughter!

Happy Birthday, Mang!

Love Yah!

My Mother's Upcoming Birthday

Now that my pretty mother's birthday is fast approaching, two days to go to be specific, I was thinking all day what preparations I will have to make. Of course, doing the marketing is always my job as well as the food preparations. My cousin informed us that they would like to have my mother's celebration at one of the beaches here in GenSan.  Incidentally, Kuerdas will be performing at a Street Party the night of my mom's birthday. That's got to be a real and big party!

Well, my mother is turning 49. But she doesn't look her age. She's one groovy Mama that I am so proud of. I can still vividly recall when I was just a little kiddo where life was too harsh. Life was most difficult when my parents decided to marry at a very tender age. They even didn't have  engagement rings to boost. We have lived in scarcity and with almost nothing but our real and huge faith on the Lord's Providence kept us going. We persevered especially when the goings got so tough.

My mother's 49th birthday will just be a simple one with some relatives. But on her 50th birthday, it will be something different. You've got to watch out for that!
